CONTEXTUAL GEOLOGICAL INTERPRETATION AND ARCHITECTURE

Using borehole electrical and acoustic image logs, modern geoscientists can:
1.  Determine structural position from shale bedding and stereographic analysis, to ascertain whether the well “tested” structure or to estimate the up-dip potential of the structure, or if it intersected an unconformity.
2.  Identification of faults and fractures to resolve structural style, sub-seismic brittle deformation and possible charge – discharge pathways for hydrocarbon and diagenetic solutions as well as principal stress analysis.

ABOUT PROCESSING

All subsurface image log and dipmeter tools are processed through state of the art PC workstation third party programs. Urgent project turn-around times are within 24 hours from receipt of data, provided data quality is optimum. Interpretations are dependent on interval, however a typical session is about three – four man-days.

 


HOW TO DETERMINE STRUCTURE AND STRESS

Bedding plane dips, interactively measured on subsurface images provide a wealth of geological information. Shales with bedding or laminations are used to determine the structural positioning of the well. Breaks in the dip plot and images are indicators of faults, fractures or unconformities. Borehole breakout analysis is used to derive the stress regime Interruptions to the vertical continuity of dips or images are usually sites of significant geological occurrences

.


HOW TO DETERMINE GEOBODY ORIENTATION

After interactively measuring traction related current bedding signatures and cross bed classification, structural dip is removed (if necessary) revealing the true palaeocurrent direction. Sediment provenance and transport directions are analysed in context to the stratigraphic setting, genetic sequence and depositional environment Complex multi-cyclical reservoir units are subdivided according to depositional cycle and facies through cuttings, core and open hole log calibration and integration. Complete petrophysical data management, analyses and interpretations are also offered in collaboration with an aligned partner and industry expert in Formation Evaluation and Geomodeling.

 


DIAGENESIS

Diagenesis, and the distribution of diagenetic by products is a fundamental component of image analysis as its presence affects hydrocarbon and reservoir volume, permeability and reservoir communication as well as affecting fault planes, gouge zones and reservoir quality.

 


DIRECT HYDROCARBON IDENTIFICATION, NET SAND

The high-resolution micro-resistivity field can be used to quantify net sand and intersected hydrocarbon columns.
